Seminary on Wheels: Get a Free Audio-Based Bible Education in Between Truck Stops
Seminary on Wheels offers a full seminary education that is audio-based. There are books to read if you want to read, but the program is audio-based.
This is a perfect program for long-haul truckers. Long-haul truckers have more listening time than any other group of professionals.
If you are a Christian truck driver, you can convert this drive time into the equivalent of a seminary education. Free.
We are told to redeem the time. Every wasted minute is an asset never to be redeemed. It is like a bad investment. You can't get your money back.
In short, there is more to on-the-road listening than Dave Nemo. There is more to drive time than entertainment.
EDUCATION: BOOKS VS. LECTURES
Both are good. We can read more words per minute than we can listen to. But we cannot read and drive at the same time. Also, the value of lost time spent reading is high. Not so with listening.
You can drive and learn new material if the lectures are designed by a skilled teacher who knows how to communicate. So, your cost of learning falls dramatically. This is another way of saying that the payoff for audio-based instruction is high: high-value benefits from low-value time.
This is why truckers have a huge advantage when it comes to learning new ideas, as distinguished from visual-based instruction. They can convert drive time into high-value time: learning.
You are in a position to master almost any narrative-based academic field: history, economics, government, and philosophy. But the teacher must design his courses to be heard.
This is why Bible study is ideal for listening. The Bible says: "Faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God." This is why sermons were the most effective teaching tools for the masses until the invention of the printing press. Serious communicators mastered the art of verbal instruction.
This is why drive-time Christian education can be so effective. It is not Christian education for people who are out of the labor markets: children and young adults. It is Christian education for busy adults who have lots of spare time. Not many people do. But you do.
Drive time is spare time. This is your opportunity. Don't let it get away.
Think of the tremendous potential of what you have been missing in your Christian walk -- or in your case, your Christian drive. You have time to listen -- more time than any other profession allows.
Don't waste any more time.
TURN YOUR CAB INTO A CLASSROOM
There is now an audio library of over 1850 lessons by one of the great theologians of the twentieth century, my father-in-law, R. J. Rushdoony. He wrote over 40 books. He delivered thousands of sermons. But these audios are not unconnected sermons. They are Bible courses.
There are 102 courses. They are amazingly easy to listen to. Each lesson is about 40 minutes.
Of course, a good lesson is worth listening to twice. A great lesson is worth listening to three times.
Think about this. You can now get the advanced Bible education you have dreamed about but have never had time for. After you have taken these courses, you will have a comprehensive knowledge of the Bible that few pastors have. Most pastors are not Bible scholars. Dr. Rushdoony was. But he never lectured as if he was talking to a room full of college graduates. He learned how to preach and teach as a missionary to the Western Shoshone Indian tribe. He was a missionary for ten years at the beginning of his career.
Rushdoony read over 200 books a year for 50 years. He underlined them and made notes in the rear. He read newspapers and magazines. He remembered an enormous amount of this material. I have a Ph.D. in history, but I never had a memory like his.
He once wrote a term paper in graduate school that was over 600 pages long. His professor, one of the most respected historians in the world, tried to get it published by a university press, but it was during World War II, and book paper was rationed. It never got published. It should be published -- over 70 years after he wrote it.
If you want to get an idea of his work schedule, take a look at this. I dare you!
You have never had a teacher like this. Almost no one has. I speak from experience. He was the most informative lecturer I ever heard, and I have heard a lot of them. Now you can get his courses for free.
Listen to just one lecture on your smart phone. See what you think.
Normally, you should listen to at least five lectures before making a judgment about a teacher. But you can decide with just one of his.
Go to the site. Look at the courses. Select one. Then listen to the first lesson. My prediction: you will listen to the rest of the lessons in the course.
Then you will have 101 courses to go.
If you listen to four lessons a day -- not too much -- in less than two years, you will have the equivalent of a seminary education.
Then listen again. In a total of three years, you will have far more than a seminary education. You will have an understanding of the Bible and its relevance to society greater than most pastors ever have.
Pastors are busy. They have people to counsel. They have meetings. They have funerals and weddings to conduct. They don't have much time to sit and think. You do.
What do you want to think about?
Devote three years of drive time to this, and you will be ready to lead. You may not think of yourself as a potential leader. You don't understand your potential. If you spend three years on drive-time education, a whole new world will open up for you.
You will not drive a truck forever. What if you retire five years from now? Ten years? What then? Prepare for a leadership role. Review these materials, year by year, for as long as you're on the road. You will gain real mastery of the Bible. Not many people ever do.
If you still like Seminary on Wheels after a month, spread the word.
Your wife may be interested in something like this. If she has listening time, you can take courses together. It also works for homeschooling. If your whole family takes a course together, your family will be able to interact more productively when you get home.
