The pressure of the recession is leading Americans to borrow from their 401(k) retirement accounts. Look at the chart:

These are Americans with high incomes. Most people do not have 401(k) plans.

If people with money are hard-pressed to get by without increased debt, think of the average Joe.

These people refuse to reduce their spending to match their reduced income. They are stealing from themselves.
