Taking Notes
Gary North
Printer-Friendly Format

June 2, 2008

For 27 years, I have waited for an easy-to-use program for taking notes and retrieving them. There are lots of good general note-taking programs out there, including the free Evernote product. But what I have wanted is a program specifically designed for taking notes on books and articles. I have wanted one that will let me enter a book's title and publishing information once, and then tag every note to that entry.

I found it last week. It's brand new. It's called NoteScribe -- a pretty good name for a product like this.

This program gives a student a big advantage in writing term papers. It's sort of like using 3x5 cards. (Remember them?) If you have a voice-recognition program like Naturally Speaking, it's a whole lot better than 3x5 cards.

You may not be a student or an addicted taker of notes the way I am. But you may have a child or grandchild who is. If so, forward this issue of "Tip of the Week" today. Then call on the phone to say you have sent it.
