Creating a Nordic Master Race by Law: The American Establishment vs. William Jennings Bryan, 1921-25
Gary North
August 3, 2010 The Scopes "Monkey Trial" of July 1925 was a media circus. Its legacy lives on. But this legacy is the textbook version of the American Establishment. The victors wrote the textbooks, the screenplays, and even the newsreels. Fact: the American Establishment had been gunning for William Jennings Bryan for four years. He walked into a land mine in Dayton, Tennessee. He never knew what hit him. He died there five days after the trial ended. The trial was caricatured by the mainstream media as a battle between emotional fundamentalism and rational science. This version was reinforced in 1960 by the movie, Inherit the Wind, and also by a fake newsreel, created to imitate the style of a 1940s pre-TV movie theater newsreel. You can see it here on a PBS page, which continues the Party Line: http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/evolution/library/08/2/l_082_01.htmlI have started a new department on the "trial of the century." It's called Real Scopes Trial. I will produce a video on this. It should be ready in a month. I have delivered the lectures. They must be edited. You can download my minibook on the events leading up to the trial: The Road to Dayton. http://www.garynorth.com/public/department140.cfm
