What Is Leadership? How Much Would You Like? Why? How Soon? At What Price?
Gary North
Except for hermits, leadership is an inescapable concept. Every organization has leaders and followers. Most participants are both. If you want to move up the chain of command, you must understand the rules of the organization. You must also understand how the informal system operates. There is always an informal system. There are always Good Old Boys. If there is a lot of money or power involved, this in an Old Boy Network. In this department, I cover issues of leadership: what it is, how to get it, and how to keep it. You are always under authority. The question is this: How much authority do you posses? How much influence do you have in shaping the rules and enforcing them? You are on the receiving end. You are also on the giving end. It is better to be on the giving end than the receiving end.
