About two weeks ago, my trusty HP LaserJet 1100 printer stopped printing. It just sat there, its printing light blinking.
I thought about getting it repaired. But then it occurred to me: the value of my time in locating a repair shop, taking in the printer, and driving to get it back would be high. Was there a cheaper way?
When in doubt, ask Amazon. I searched for "LaserJet 1100" and "used." I got a page that offered to sell a used one for $75, which included shipping.
Even better, it included a toner cartridge. A toner cartridge costs at least $50 locally at Office Depot, plus tax. So, in effect, the used printer would cost me about $25.
There was no way that I could get my dead printer fixed for $25. The "I'll look at it" fee would be $25, plus the replacement part.
I ordered the used one, charging it automatically my Amazon account. No muss, no fuss. A week later, FedEx delivered it. I hooked it up. It works fine. I am back in business.
I cannot imagine how anyone made a profit on this transaction, other than me. But mine is not to reason why. Mine is just to shop and buy.
That's why I set up my "Discount Deals" department.
