If you search for Claro -- probably using Claro -- you will find tips on how to uninstall it. Most of them don't work. One of them may. Let's start with the dead ends.

This looks simple.

1. Go to Start > Control Panel

2. Under Programs, click on Uninstall a program. It will open a program and features window where-in you can uninstall, change, or repair installed software.

3. Look for the name Claro LTD Toolbar and highlight the item.

4. Click on Uninstall button (beside Organize) at the top to remove the program automatically.

5. If it prompts for confirmation, please click OK to proceed.

It really is simple. It doesn't work. I removed it. Still, the search page returns. There is no trace of it in the list of programs.

We are told to download Malwarebytes.

The easiest way to remove isearch.claro-search.com is by utilizing the free version of Malwarebytes. Malwarebytes is proven to remove the iSearch Virus and has the largest sample rate of all removal software due to being the most downloaded Anti-Malware program of 2011 and 2012.

It does not work in 2013. It did not spot the trojan. It did not remove it.

We are told to go to Mozilla Firefox extensions. Remove it.

Step 1: Open Firefox and navigate to Tools > Add-ons

Step 2: Select Extensions, find the isearch.claro-search.com extension and click disable, then remove.

It's not in the list.

Then there is this.

The fastest way I could find is to manually edit the registry key.
1. On the Windows start button, search programs and files for "regedit" and open it
2. Under "edit" select find and in the dialogue box that opens type "claro" and click find next
3. regedit will now find the firstregistry key the contains the letter sequence "claro" - do check that the sequence is not just some small part of a longer word but I found 5 or 6 entries related to ClaroLTD...delete the entry and confirm
4. Hit F3 and regedit will find the next entry - repeat until all claro entries have been deleted.
5. close regedit

Normal service should resume...

Normal service does not resume. Claro is still alive and well.

We are told to remove it from the registry.

The Reset Firefox feature can fix many issues by restoring Firefox to its factory default state while saving your essential information. Note: This will cause you to lose any Extensions, Open websites, and some Preferences.

To Reset Firefox do the following:

Go to Firefox > Help > Troubleshooting Information.
Click the "Reset Firefox" button.
Firefox will close and reset. After Firefox is done, it will show a window with the information that is imported. Click Finish.
Firefox will open with all factory defaults applied.

That worked. But I lost other programs I had added, most notably Readability. It altered my toolbar. But at least I no longer see Claro. I hope it's gone forever.

These instructions are detailed.

6. Search for other things referring Claro Search in the list
7. Claro Search might affect some setting files in Firefox.
