Squint No More

Gary North

I like large print on my computer screen. I have my screen settings at the largest: 800 x 600. With Windows XP, you change the screen settings tab as follows:

Start Control Panel Display Settings Screen resolution bar OK

On my Web site, www.GaryNorth.com, there is an option on the masthead bar: Text Size. There are two settings.

Recently, I discovered that there is an even easier way to get large print: a mouse. If the mouse has a scroll wheel, you can use it to make print either larger or smaller.

Depress the Ctrl button. Keep it depressed. Now turn the wheel toward you. The screen's print will enlarge. There are five settings.

You can get the print so large on some sites that the middle setting is probably best.

To shrink the print, just roll the wheel in the other direction.

This feature does not work on all sites when you use Internet Explorer. It works on Google. It doesn't work on my site.

The feature works on all sites with Firefox.

You don't even need a scroll wheel. Use "Crtl -" (smaller) and Crtl +" (larger). You get more than five settings. That's only with Firefox.

So, never again squint to read a Web page.
