Malware Defense
My computer is constantly being invaded by a program called Conduit. It takes over my search engine. It becomes my home page. It's hard to get rid of. I get it without warning.
I hate Malware.
A computer repairman gave me a tip. Don't ever install a free program in the STANDARD mode. STANDARD means "malware attached." Use CUSTOM. With CUSTOM, you are informed about the attached junk files, which the freeware distribution site is being paid to disseminate to the unsuspecting. You can decline the invitation.
Here is an article on this. //www.garynorth.com/snip/1127.htm
The key phrase is "Direct Download Link." You probably never noticed that before, did you? Neither did I. Silly me.
That is what you should click. Not DOWNLOAD.
Better yet, download a freeware program from the freeware producer's site -- not a proxy site.
I have produced a short screencast video on a way to check all downloaded programs and files: //www.garynorth.com/public/12217.cfm
