It's spring. It's time to clean out your attic.
Make some money for your effort. Run some classified ads.
When you sell anything in the classifieds, you always get calls from people who keep asking the same questions. Most of them won't buy the item. You waste lots of time talking to non-prospects.
Then your phone keeps ringing after you have sold the item.
There is a way to solve both problems. It's called an autoresponder.
If you have your own Web site -- and for $4 a month, you should -- you get an unlimited number of free autoresponders. An autoresponder sends out an instant- reply letter to anyone who sends an email to a Web address.
You don't need to post anything on your Web site. You don't need a professionally produced Web page. Leave it blank if you want. All you need is a free autoresponder. Or five. How much junk do you have to sell?
Write an ad for the item you are selling. Make it as descriptive as you can -- how great it will be for the buyer, how you really don't want to part with it but you must (offer a plausible reason), and give the price.
Then list your phone number.
The person who calls will be almost ready to buy. He will not ask the same old questions. You have answered them in your ad.
When it's sold, revise your autoresponder letter. Say that the item is sold. Of course, don't give your phone number.
Run a short ad in the classifieds. Don't mention price. Just write, "for details, send e-mail to: [whatever]@yourdomain.com."
I have written a free course on how to use autoresponders this way. It is sent by autoresponder. Sign up for it here:
This way, you can see an autoresponder in action!
