Prescriptions for Dummies

I had cataract surgery this month. Twice.

I had to buy eye drops that reduce infection. One bottle was about $300.

For eye #2, I asked the ophthalmologist if there were cheaper sources. He wrote me a generic prescription. (Now he tells me!)

Then he recommended a site: www.goodrx.com.

You type in your prescription. It tells you which pharmacies sell it for how much. You can pick the cheapest.

This time, we saved $100 on the whole deal.

I rarely go to a physician. I do not buy prescriptions. I did not think to ask the physician for a generic product. I also did not think to check around.

Price competition works. Put it to good use.

Don't be a dummy.
