I need a powerful router. My cable company line enters the house through my basement. I have my office/recording studio there.
My wife has her office on the first floor. She has two laptop computers connected to the Wi-Fi.
On the second floor is our TV room. The Wi-Fi signal has to go up two floors.
Before, I had a Netgear WNDR3700 router. There was no signal on the second floor. The signal on the first floor was barely adequate: 2 to 3 bars.
Next, I bought a Netgear Powerline 200 system. It converts a home's electrical wiring into a signal carrier. It costs $200. It was worth it. The signal on the second floor was fine.

Last week, I switched out the Netgear for a TP-Link router that cost $20. //www.garynorth.com/snip/1170.htm The signal on my wife's computers is now at 5 bars. The signal is fine in the TV room. I unplugged the Powerline 200's.
If you need a cheap, powerful router, buy a TP-Link WR841N.
