Gert Behannah was an alcoholic. She sobered up through Alcoholics Anonymous.

There was a movie made about her, in a Hollywood sort of way: The Late Liz. It's online.

I first heard this album around 1960. I recognized that this is an extraordinary speech. She is funny. She is believable.

The man who became her pastor was one of the three men who co-founded AA: Sam Shoemaker.

In the early 1960's, she spoke to 1,000 audiences a year. This is incomprehensible. She was a legendary AA speaker.

She died in 1969.

If you want a no-holds-barred, no self-pity-allowed speech about hitting rock-bottom, listen to this. (The first 15 seconds have no sound.) I recommend not viewing the series of unrelated photos.
