David Watson: A Revolutionary Foreign Missions Strategy (CPM)

I came across David Watson several years ago. I stumbled into a video of a conference where he spoke.

I posted articles on him on this site. I included embedded videos. But, one by one, the videos were taken down. This was annoying.

I am posting embedded videos on this page. I do not expect them to stay online. I hope they will.

Bottom line: he and six assistants in India started a foreign missions program in the region called "the graveyard of missionaries." This was not rhetorical. All six of his assistants were martyred.

When he left India a decade later, his churches had multiplied to 80,000 . . . congregations, not members. Today, it is close to 100,000, with 50 members per church. These are house churches.

So, if you want to know how they did it, watch these videos. As he says, this is a lifestyle, not a program. There is no formula. But it is repeatable.

There is an outline of his strategy. Read it here.

He says this: unless you are basically broken and ready for change, it will not work. This is for someone who has reached rock bottom.

This may not work for you. But be aware: this happened.

He also admits: he is not a church builder. He is a church planter. When a church puts up a building, the multiplication process stops. When foreign missions organizations pay missionaries, the process stops.

I say that maturity leads to church buildings. Societies change because of theological maturity. House churches launch a Christian transformation. They do not complete it. But to start foreign missions, Watson's recommended strategy has worked better than anything in history.

It is about team-building and delegation of responsibility. Message: there are no Lone Rangers in missions.

Second message: the crucial factor is prayer.

His book is here: http://bit.ly/DavidWatsonBook.

Note: he does not want your money. His view: outside money kills missions.
