Bounced Credit Card: Update the Date

Gary North - December 12, 2015

Even though you use a valid credit card for monthly auto-billings, it may be rejected as invalid.

A card that works at a point-of-sale terminal may be rejected by auto-billing software.

This happened three times this week to the Ron Paul Curriculum. Amazon S3, which hosts RPC's screencast videos, rejected it. So did Google, which we pay for running ads. There was no explanation. So did the web hosting service.

I checked the card. The original card's expiration date was for next spring. The bank had issued a new card. The expiration date was spring 2019.

When I went into the three accounts and updated the card's information to reflect the new expiration date, it worked in all three cases.

So, even though the card had not expired, all three companies treated it as if it had already expired.

Who knew?

Be aware that this may be a problem with some bills that you pay by monthly automatic billing of your card.

I recommend updating the date on your card to reflect this on every site that bills your card automatically. Do it as soon as you are sent the new card.

On my site, do this here: "Your Account".
