I recently wrote an article on Hitler's military leadership. I called him the biggest military fool in history.
Hitler failed to crush the British army at Dunkirk in May 1940. On June 22, 1941, he ordered the army to invade the Soviet Union. He declared war on the United States on December 11, 1941. Three strikes, and Germany was out.
No leader had made three military mistakes of this magnitude before Hitler. By the second mistake, a leader would have been dead or in exile. Hitler is the gold medal winner in military stupidity.
As Hitler said in his declaration of war against the United States, Germany had a military tradition for over 2,000 years. Now Germany is run by Frau Merkel.
German troops are the backbone of NATO. NATO is a gigantic bureaucracy that could not handle the national wars in splintering Yugoslavia in the 1990's. When you think of Germany's military capacity, don't think BMW. Think "Yugo."
Hitler's racial mania and utter military stupidity did this. The Wehrmacht was a great army in 1939. It was pulverized in 1945.
Hitler, loudmouth coward that he was, killed himself and his new bride on April 30.
He lost "mein kampf." Germany lost with him.

Yet he still has defenders. Some of them like to think of themselves as Christians.
My article on Hitler was posted just after at midnight, October 24. At 2:25 a.m., B. Davis sent this:

The tip-off was this: "So I guess Ron Paul's school is kosher approved?" This is a way of saying "Jew approved." Here was another pro-Hitler, Jew-hating idiot. I have dealt with them for 45 years. I usually reply to them, quoting the Dillards' Mitch Jayne, "two of you would not make a half-wit." This time, I did not.
Anti-Semites have never gotten over the fact that their most vocal spokesman was a failure in life: a failed art student, a socialist, a military fool, and a suicide. He did serve effectively as a corporal. That was his only success in life. As his legacy, he destroyed the German military tradition all by himself. That will teach them for letting an Austrian serve -- an Austrian who had failed his physical exam, and who somehow fooled the German military authorities in Bavaria to induct him.
I sent Mr. Davis a brief reply: "When a nation is led by the greatest fool in history, it deserves what it gets." I sent it at 3:21 a.m. At 4:11, I received this:
That was a strong rebuttal? Look I am a Christian. I just want to say a lot of people Christians included are waking up to all the lies we have been told about many different things. It's really getting old. You are supposedly representing Christianity. The last we need is for someone who knows the truth to realize that a Christian is regurgitating lies to them. You should really do a little research on Hitler and Hitlers Germany. Gott mit uns!

These people really to believe that there is some way to whitewash national socialism as a well-intentioned movement that was merely seeking a peaceful revision of the 1919 Versailles peace treaty. They were unfairly thwarted in 1939 by British imperialists when peaceful revision failed.
ANTI-SEMITISM AS NATIONAL SOCIALISM
Within the post-World War II American conservative movement, there has been a tiny contingent of apologists for Hitler. Most of them are simpletons who want to "get them Jews." They are ineffective souls who have spent their lives on the sidelines, blaming the Jews for their failure to achieve much. They had to blame someone. They target Jews, who have visible economic success. They could just as easily blame Episcopalians, but Episcopalians are not visible. Ever since 1950, they could have blamed Asians. But Asian-Americans are not political figures. They are also not in the media. They are not among the super-rich. So, Jews are convenient targets.
Jews have above-average income. Some of them are very rich. This bothers anti-Semites. They fail to ask this: "How do people get rich in a free market society?" Here is how. Rich businessmen sell lots of goods and services to the broad mass of the population. The capitalist system holds out carrots in the form of money. Buyers say this: "Serve us well, and we'll give you more carrots." Consumers are in control, for they own the most marketable commodity: money. Consumers tell producers: "Do it our way." This is sometimes called consumer sovereignty, but I prefer to call it consumer authority. Sovereignty is a judicial concept. Authority better describes the consumers' control over the allocation of scarce resources in a marketplace
Anti-Semites have never figured out how capitalism works. They really are national socialists. They don't understand that the free market is a system of ownership that enables lots of gentiles to get a handful of Jews working for them day and night. They think that the free market is a system run by capitalists to exploit the poor. That's the socialist party line.
The free market is a system that rewards voluntary cooperation. "Let's make a deal." This is followed by: "Can I get a discount?" Jews in retail trades are famous for offering discounts -- the sought-after "Jewish brother-in-law deal." That's why I bought my suits in the Los Angeles garment district for 30 years, as my father had before me. It was only when I found a way to get my suits custom made in India that I defected.
There are not many Jews in America: about 2% of the population. This is about the same percentage as farmers. But farmers have a vast program of federal subsidies to help them as a voting bloc. Jews don't.
Jews do not do well under socialism. If you doubt me, read Benjamin Ginsberg's book, The Fatal Embrace: Jews and the State. For a time, they may think that a powerful state can benefit them. Then comes the reaction. It is unwise to trust the state when you are a member of a small, distrusted minority in any population. There was an abnormally high percentage of secular Jews in the top ranks of the Communist Party in the Soviet Union in 1920. There wasn't in 1940. Stalin, an ex-seminary student, had them executed, one by one. (The big exception was Kaganovich, who was the last Soviet founder to die: July 1991. The USSR died five months later. It is a shame he did not make it to New Year's day. "Sorry, Lazar, but you bet on the wrong pony.")
CONCLUSIONS
The anti-Semites in American conservatism are a fringe movement. They are not much of a movement. They do not trust libertarians because there are too many Jewish economists among the libertarians. If they knew that Israel Kirzner is a rabbi, they would go ballistic, but they have never heard of him. This is to his advantage, I suppose.
The free market is an open system in which buyers and sellers can work out mutually satisfactory deals. This benefits members of minority groups who are productive. They can undercut the competition. They can offer a better deal. This imposes a loss on all those who say: "I don't do deals with those sorts of people." They have to pay retail.
If you are a Jew in America, an untouchable in India, or an Armenian anywhere, here are the magic words: "I can get it for you cheaper." This is "open sesame" in every free society and every black market.
Don't expect to be invited into a socially elitist country club. Build your own.
