This cartoon is unique because this election is unique. The cartoon gets the idea across: this really is a suicidal election.
Never in American history have more voters been convinced that both candidates are looming disasters. There has always been a lot of grousing about the weaknesses of the candidates, but nothing like this.
I read this 40 years ago in a review of a Jaws sequel. It still applies. "That scraping sound you hear is the bottom of the barrel."
The cartoon reveals a degree of hopelessness that is unheard of in American politics. It identifies Trump as the lesser of two evils. But the odds are against us -- the voters and the country.
This is why 2020 will be a watershed election. The campaign will offer hope. "It has to get better. It can't get worse. Throw them all out."
Beware of the liberator if his party controls both houses of Congress.
