Classified Ads

Have you tried to buy anything lately by using your local newspaper's classified ad section? You may be in for a pleasant surprise. Digital technology here keeps advancing.

My local newspaper has added a feature I really appreciate. After you have narrowed your search, it lets you add your email address. Then, once a day, when new ads that meet your narrow criteria are posted, the newspaper sends you an email with links to these newly posted ads.

You can cancel at any time. No more emails.

This way, you don't have to keep going back to the newspaper's web page to see if there are any new ads.

Second, you won't forget to return for another search. You are therefore more likely to spot the new ads than someone who has not signed up for this email service.

I bought a very nice used bottom-freezer refrigerator this way last year. I saved about $1,000, and I got the brand I was after, which local stores did not carry. The guy even delivered it to me for free.

If you're a seller, use an autoresponder to screen "tire-kickers." Don't put your phone number in the ad. Instead, give an email address: "For full details, send email to: . . . " Use a long ad to sell your item. On how to do this, send for my free 4-lesson course on using autoresponders in classified advertisements. Click & send:

Wait 10 seconds. Then click your email inbox. There should be a "please confirm" letter. Click the embedded confirmation link to receive Lesson One by instant-reply mail. You'll receive one lesson per day.
