Bad Old Tires
Tires should be replaced every ten years. So says Edmunds, the used car pricing outfit.
"For years, people have relied on a tire's tread depth to determine its condition. But the rubber compounds in a tire deteriorate with time, regardless of the condition of the tread. An old tire poses a safety hazard."

Old tires can blow out while you're driving.
I drive my 2005 minivan fewer than 5,000 miles a year. The tread on the rear tires was good. But when I took the car to a shop to replace the front tires, the mechanic said the rear tires were cracked.
I had all four replaced. The whole deal was $555, including a front-end alignment.
The tires and the car should outlast me.
