Wake Up Earlier
I used to be a late-night person. I read in the evening. I got up at 7:30. Maybe 8. Graduate students can set their schedules.
I did not watch Johnny Carson after the summer of 1971. Even before, I did not watch him regularly. I had discovered him at age 13 in 1955. I watched his twice-a-week 6:45 AM weather show. I remained a fan, but not enough to stay up to midnight unless he was interviewing Peter Ustinov, Buddy Hackett, or Burt Reynolds.
Over the years, I have slowly become a morning person -- a 3 AM morning person. That's when I start my work day. It lasts until 8 PM. After 8, I have trouble concentrating on what I am reading.
I enjoyed an article by a former night person. Motherhood has forced her to become a morning person. She has not made the transition yet, but at least she no longer has to use two alarm clocks to get up in the morning.
She learned some strange facts, such as: blue computer screens keep some people from falling asleep. They should avoid smart phones in the evening.
