Video: Zap and Search American Citizens
This is from John Stoessel.
There is not going to be any wall on the border. Congress is not going to legislate the money. I think that should be clear by now.
There will be almost no deportations of illegal aliens. That's the inevitable economic news. I have written about this before. It is politically impossible economically for the United States government to deport more than a token number of illegal aliens. It would cost at least $23,000 per deported alien. Multiply this by a minimum of 11 million illegals. There is no possibility that Congress will appropriate this kind of money to the immigration bureaucrats.
The problem is this: the mentality of Americans on closing the border empowers the border patrol agents to exercise legitimate power that they think they have been granted. The Supreme Court has not granted them this power, but the public believes that it has. So do the agents. Therefore, those of us who don't believe that the Supreme Court has authorized this kind of power are stuck. Either we are complacent, submissively consenting to illegal searches, or else we make a fuss and risk getting Tasered.
When you deal with border patrol agents, you are not dealing with the top 10% of the graduating high school classes of America. I doubt that you're dealing with the top 30%. Keep this in mind when you're dealing with these people. These are the people who beat you up after school when you were 15 years old. They enjoyed doing it. Now they have badges and guns, and the government lets them do it.
Border patrol agents can get away with anything, including murder. I mean this literally. No border patrol agent is going to be prosecuted for murder if he puts a bullet into the head of some poor soul who is dumb enough to exercise his constitutional rights. The border patrol agent may decide not to do it, but that has nothing to do with the actual enforcement of law.
When was the last time you heard of any officer wearing a badge who was executed for murder? The next time will be the first time.
I like the idea of having an inexpensive camcorder installed on the driver's side of the car. I think it's a good idea for somebody who is crossing internal checkpoints on a regular basis to install this kind of technology. I also believe in YouTube postings. Public embarrassment is one of the few things that bureaucrats fear. The other fear is budget cuts. They are fearless with respect to prosecution. They know they'll beat the rap on that. But if the budget gets cut, someone could have his career blocked. That's bad news for the bureaucrat.
The problem is this: politically, the budget is not going to get cut during Trump's administration. That means that the arrogance of the border patrol agents is going to increase.
I recommend that people post YouTube videos rather than resist arrest. I don't think getting Tasered is worth the trouble. But posting a YouTube video really is worth the trouble. Inflict a little pain on some bureaucrat. It's better than having the bureaucrat inflict a lot of pain on you.
