"The biggest problems on freeways in my opinion are blind spots. When you change the lane, and someone's in your blind spot, that's bad. There's actually no reason to ever have a blind spot. I learned this from my dad. We adjust the mirrors to point further outside. You don't need to see the back of your own car. You need to see the lane next to you. That way, I don't have to look all the way back behind my shoulder anymore. It's more comfortable and therefore less fatiguing and safer driving. The only time you may want to see your own car is when parking, and you can still do that by just moving your upper body towards either mirror."

Simple. But it never occurred to me.

My problem now is this: I can't get an old cartoon out of my mind. We are inside a car. We see the rear view mirror on the door. It says: "Objects in the mirror may be closer than they appear." We see the huge head of a grotesque monster -- very, very close.
