Tony Furtado used to be the best bluegrass banjo player in the United States. He twice won the national championship: 1987, 1991. You can read about him here.

Then he switched to guitar. He adopted slide blues guitar.

This version of Delta blues master Skip James' "Cypress Grove" is like nothing I have ever seen. This much I know: this is not Delta blues. The show-stopper is when he walks over to the audience toward the end of the song.

This video was a live performance in Oregon in 2006. On stage, he is backed up by Jon Fishman, Phish's drummer. At the end, they shake hands. They had not played together before. You do not get this impression during the performance.

If you don't like slide guitar blues, don't watch this.

P.S. As for the tall guy who has a voice like a didgeridoo, he is using Tuvan throat singing.
