Nine years later, it became a movie.

Don't touch that dial! Listen to them all, 2-5, one after another.

I saw the movie in November 1983. When I walked in, I did not know that it was Shepherd's story. By the end of the credits, I knew. I had read the 1966 book at least 15 years earlier. I went back the next day to see it again. It never loses its charm.

I first began listening in the fall of 1963 in Philadelphia. I could pick up the broadcast from WOR, New York City. It started at 10:15 in the evening. It went on for 45 minutes. Every night, we got stories like this one. He did it for 21 years. No one could figure out how. When I moved to Irvington, New York in September 1971, I began listening again. I kept listening until I moved out of New York in the spring of 1973. There was nothing to match Jean Shepherd.

So, fa ra ra ra ra to you.
