Craigslist Strategy

We are moving and have a dumpster to get rid of stuff, so I thought "why not try to sell some of this stuff"?

Friday I posted several items on Craigslist individually. I also posted in the garage sale, moving sale section for the sale to start at 10 am. By 9 am I had many, many people.

We sold $400 in the first two hours.

I did the same thing Saturday. No one showed up even at 10 am. People trickled in one at a time throughout the time period of 10-2, which was what I had posted.

I looked at my craigslist posting Saturday to make sure it was all ok. I was already on page 2 of Craigslist. What customer has time to go thru that many listings, let alone if they stop at 3 other sales before mine, they might be tired of shopping.

My learning: Saturday's are saturated. One cannot even keep the posting in the top 5 to compete just for reading time!

Also, I sold more by posting individual items for sale at higher prices one by one than a "garage sale". The garage sale people are bottom of the bucket trying to get things for one dollar. They are just "stumbling" on things.

The people who want a certain thing that you have that see it individually listed pay much more.

So, post individually on Craigslist, not a garage sale or moving sale. And post on weekdays where there is less competition for the listing to actually be seen. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *
