Charles Burris teaches history at Tulsa Memorial High School.
He has posted a useful webpage discussing his philosophy of education (Socratic/interactive), plus recommended books, primary source documentary materials, films, and videos.
He is a big fan of former New York City and New York State Teacher of the Year, John Taylor Gatto. Gatto also used the Socratic method.
This is not the Socratic method.
He recommends a book by Georgetown University historian Caroll Quigley: Tragedy and Hope. (Macmillan 1966). I agree. He recommends economist Murray Rothbard's work on the Great Depression. So do I. So does historian Paul Johnson. (Johnson's view carries more weight than mine.)
His favorite poem is Kipling's If. Mine is his Gods of the Copybook Headings.
If you want to study the economic and political aspects of American history, I can think of no better place to start than Burris' webpage. He also offers a bibliography on what is wrong with American tax-funded education.
