A group of academic researchers examined 17,000 Android apps. They found that none of them transmitted information on what people were saying.
Instead, some of them transmitted information on what people were watching. The story is here:
Why the suppliers of the offending apps want to survey what people are watching is a mystery to me. But my view is this: I don't want to share information with third-party snoopers who will then sell this information to advertisers. The writer concluded:
"So by attempting to debunk one conspiracy theory, researchers were able to create a situation primed for another one to take its place. And without easily recognizable disclosures from companies that your screen may be recorded, this new theory may persist just as strongly as the one the researchers were sick of hearing about." I am in favor of conspiracy stories about real conspiracies.
I plan to stick with my low-IQ flip phone. If I lose it, I'm out $40.
