I did not know his father, Sir William, but I know his co-author, James Dale Davidson, for whom I have great respect. Sir William was a conservative. He was the editor of the Times, which amazed me then and still does.
Here is a press conference. Notice: there are no screaming reporters.
First, they ask questions one by one. We cannot hear them. This is not for talking-head points on their respective network news shows.
Second, every reporter gets to ask a question.
Third, Rees-Mogg answers each question directly. No weaseling.
Fourth, his answers make sense.
This is not a White House press conference.
He calls for lower British tariffs, just as I do.
Here is his brief speech in the House of Commons on why he is participating in the move to call for a vote of no confidence for May. If 48 letters are submitted by the Conservative Party MP's, and if the motion passes, there will be a vote within the Party's MP's for a new leader. By Saturday night, November 17, 42 letters had been submitted.
