$600/Day Fine for Feeding Kids for Free
A woman in Chester township in Philadelphia gives a free meal to children in her neighborhood every day. She does this from her home.
The town council found out about this. It ordered her to stop this assault on the integrity of her neighborhood. This must be nipped in the bud. If she is allowed to feed children, others in the community might start feeding children in their homes. This violates zoning ordinances.
Feeding children could destroy the community, where average income is $19,000 a year. Doubt me? Just ask the town council.
No one in the community complained. But, hey, what authority do they have? None. They are merely part of the silent sane majority. They do not sit on the town council.
“It’s not my job to go to her,” says the head of the town council.
She fills out all forms for safe food. But this is not about safe food or hungry children. This is about the authority of the town council to tell people what to do. This is what politics is about, right? Telling people what to do? Of course it is.
This is America. This is about democracy. This is about preserving liberty — the liberty of elected politicians to enforce the letter of the law, no matter what. This is about what happens when people surrender control over their property to the civil government.
