When you work for the TSA (Transportation Safety Agency), you worry about terrorists. Day and night, you worry about terrorists.
There is no terrorist as dangerous as a Congressman who wants to eliminate the TSA. Cut its budget. Replace it with airline security funded by . . . airlines.
Then what happens to the TSA’s $8 billion a year budget
This man must be stopped!
And he was. On Tuesday, he, his wife, and his granddaughter were flying to Texas after his floor appearance at the Republican National Convention.
At the little airport in Clearwater, 8 TSA agents descended on them and ordered them not to board their private plane. First, the pilots, the airplane, and the passengers would have to be screened in great detail, because Romney might be nearby. After a long examination of the pilots and their credentials, the agents said they had to check the plane for explosives. One of the pilots noted that the plane, full of aviation fuel, was already a bomb. Then Carol Paul, who has a pacemaker, refused to be screened, and an aide started taking video of the whole rotten process. At that point, the TSA backed down and let them through, to Texas and freedom.
My guess is that somewhere in the TSA’s files is this eyes-only memorandum from Janet Napolitano, who runs the Department of Homeland Security. “Terrorists are now armed with smartphones. They post videos on YouTube. Extreme caution is advised.”
When you read about this incident, you need not wonder why Americans’ faith in the federal government is draining away.
Could it be true that some supervisor in a local TSA unit really did order 8 TSA goons to make sure Ron Paul is not a terrorist? Is this the intellectual capability of supervisors in the TSA?
If it is, how safe are we? I don’t mean from “safe from terrorists.” I mean “safe from government goons.”
