America’s Energy Independence Is Just Around the Corner!

The free market allocates resources. Those supplying resources least expensively have an advantage over those who do not. This is true of oil, coal, natural gas, automobiles, agricultural products, superhero movies, and everything else. Singling out oil as a unique problem has been politically profitable over the decades because the public does not understand economics, and it also has a short collective memory.

Nothing that the federal government has done has increased the supply of oil. The nation still has net oil imports, but the public really doesn't worry about the issue any longer. This is why politicians don't talk about the need to become energy self-sufficient any longer. I would like to think that this is a permanent condition. It seems almost too good to be true.
