These checking accounts have interests rates up to almost 5%.
It is a program to help small banks, all FDIC insured.
Usually there is a MAXIMUM amount that can be in there at high interest. But there is NO minimum.
Criteria to qualify are:
1. Sign up for e-statements
2. Use your debit cards a certain number of times (usually 12)
3. Have one direct deposit
4. Log into online banking at least once per period
I just opened an account with over 4% interest with a maximum balance of $15,000. If I maintain that balance, that’s $600/yr.
