How to Use PowerPoint Effectively

Gene E. Moore

I find the use of PowerPoint very effective.

I use the same slides in both my live as well as my Camtasia presentations. The difference between me and the other guys is this: I am not reading or saying the same thing that is being displayed by PowerPoint.

I supply my audience with copies of the PowerPoint presentation for them to know what I am saying in my talk and to be able to take good notes off the content I am supplying.

I must clarify something, they do not get all the slides, because I have cartoons done by others; as an instructor I am able to share on the big screen. I also leave them out of the Camtasia presentation. I use a lot of props in my talks, and pictures of the props are also made as slides.

I have also found a word processing system, spreadsheet, and a show (like PowerPoint) program, within Sparc. Sparc is by Kookloo, and their free system allows me to build a very secure Global Community, unlike YouTube or the My Spaces of the internet.

I never read from my PowerPoint handouts.

I use a Podcast Teleprompter from my laptop, whenever I can. Otherwise, I use colored 3x5 cards. I have each section color coded. If I need to make a long speech, I use all of them, if it is for a 20 minute, I pick out the four sections out of my 12, that best fit who I am talking too.
