Here are great advantages that owning a profitable business offers:
1. Financial independence from a single employer
2. High income
3. An income stream to "retire into" (Social Security? Unlikely)
4. Compound capital growth -- the number-one source of wealth
5. Responsibility
6. Influence
7. Self-confidence
While I was trained as a scholar, I went into business as a publisher in 1974, and I developed marketing skills that have generated millions of dollars for me and my organizations. Unless a high school business course is taught by a retired businessman, the teacher is not speaking from experience.
I teach students the basics of business: goal-setting, time-management, salesmanship, business ethics, business theory, direct-response copywriting -- the key skill that almost no business owners possess -- and how to set up a business for $100.
ROBOTS AND JOBS
You need to know what is coming. It is already here.
This is from November 2017. These jobs are going to disappear. They are high-paying jobs for people with MBA degrees, plus ten years of experience. Be prepared.
This Chinese plant cut its workforce from 650 to 60. It nearly tripled its output. It reduced errors by 80%. How? By replacing workers with robots. The story is here. It's old news. The process is much further along now.
Anyone who does not know the basics of business is at a disadvantage. He had better be able to design robots or else sell them.
Here is an Amazon warehouse.
Here is how a robot does it.
Staying ahead of this trend requires knowledge. Knowledge of how to run a business is the best way to stay ahead.
