A Follow-Up Dream from Rev. Dana Coverstone

Gary North - August 29, 2020

Even a fool, when he holdeth his peace, is counted wise: and he that shutteth his lips is esteemed a man of understanding (Proverbs 17:28).

Rev. Dana Coverstone is still dreaming. He is still posting his recollections of his dreams.

He posted the first one on June 25. It has had 1.9 million hits. Another post of his has had 788,000 hits.

I posted an article on July 15 recommending that Christians not take him seriously. You can read it here.

He said that he is a pastor, but he did not say where. He did not mention the name of his church.

This was wise. When this blows up in his face before the end of October, no one in his church will be humiliated. No one in his church will be challenged by his friends. "Is your pastor the guy who had crazy dreams about Armageddon happening in October?"

HIS LATEST POST

He posted this on August 13.

Let me summarize.

A finger pointed to the month of October: from the second week until the end of the month.

He saw federal officials with wicks on their heads. This included governors. In the second week of October, the wicks were lit on fire. Then all of the faces blew up at the same time. This sent sparks everywhere.

Then he saw protesters. They became violent against less violent protesters. They attacked old people who believe in the Constitution. They attacked nursing homes.

Then he saw a huge burning dollar like a flag. The dollar was dying. He heard taps being played.

Small churches prayed. There were few of them. They were protected by bubbles. Angels protected them.

Then he saw puffed-up pastors. They promised prosperity. Their words were slurred. Then they were stripped of their clothing. The rug was pulled out from under them. They lost all their money. They bit through their tongues. Pieces of their tongues scattered everywhere.

Then he saw clowns in suits. They were pouring grease in front of places to vote. They were doing sinister skits. They tried to keep people from voting.

He saw a billboard: "Passover 2021."

Big things are coming, he said. "Brace, brace, brace yourselves. Don't look back."

He did not explain the billboard or Passover. He has kicked now the prophetic can into 2021.

He has said that the dollar will be gone by the end of October -- hyperinflation. It's taps for the dollar.

I guess he will need a raise at the restaurant to keep washing dishes.

HE HAS LITTLE TO LOSE IF HE IS WRONG

He has no reputation to lose. Almost no one had heard of him before his first YouTube video.

As he admitted in his June 25 video, he washes dishes to supplement his income as a pastor. His church is so tiny and its members so poverty-stricken that he has to make ends meet by being a dishwasher. If he gets fired by his church, he will not be losing a lot of income.

He will not get fired from his dish washing job when his prophecies do not come true, assuming he still gets the dishes clean.

My advice: pay no attention to someone who offers an apocalyptic forecast for which he has nothing to lose if he is wrong, while you have a lot to lose if you believe him and take evasive action, and he turns out to be off-the-wall crazy wrong.

He offers no advice. This is the key. He does not say what you should to do, other than pray. Prayer without action is cheap.

He does not say what he is doing to prepare or what his church is doing to prepare.

Do its members take him seriously? If they are not doing anything individually to prepare, the answer is no. If they have not restructured their family budgets to take evasive action, the answer is no.

Do the millions of viewers take him seriously enough to spend money to prepare? It is doubtful that they have much money to do so. People with capital in reserve do not base their spending decisions on a dish washer who has dreams and who posts what he remembers on YouTube.

Then who are his viewers? The walking wounded.

In American fundamentalism, there is always a market for this kind of stuff: prophetic thrills and chills. This is because prophetic thrills and chills are a convenient substitute for evangelism, tithing, and hard work. They impose no significant costs, except this one, when the prophecies do not come true: "I was deceived again."

These people are easily deceived.

THE CASE FOR SILENCE

He says he is being obedient to God in posting his accounts of these dreams. When nothing happens, will he ask himself: "Why didn't I just keep these delusions to myself?" Will he blame himself? Or will he have more dreams to share with us -- dreams explaining why his dreams this year were poorly timed, but still valid?

He ended his latest video by saying this: "It's going to be very obvious in the next several months who's really living for the Lord and who isn't -- who's been faking it." Any pastor who goes online in the name of Christ to warn viewers against other Christians who have been "faking it" is asking for a great deal of embarrassment in his ministry. Rev. Coverstone is going to get his share soon enough.

Meanwhile, this spoof offers a prelude of things to come.
