El autor escribió la primera edición en 1980. Para hacerla legible, la escribió sin notas ni esquema. Le tomó 14 días. Lo escribió en una máquina de escribir eléctrica. Ese fue el último libro que escribió en una máquina de escribir.
Escrito para una audiencia popular, el libro comienza con las doctrinas bíblicas de Dios, el hombre y la ley, luego desarrolla las implicaciones de estos principios cuando se aplican a la familia, la iglesia, el estado y la economía.

In 2010, he added a chapter on sanctions. This chapter was written over two decades after the 1988 edition, on which the Spanish edition is based.
