The election of 1976 brought religion into the forefront. Jimmy Carter was an outspoken Baptist.

David Rockefeller thought this would be an advantage for the Trilateral Commission. It was, but only briefly.

I referred to James Robison's introductory speech at the National Affairs Briefing Conference in August 1980. It preceded Reagan's. Adrian Rogers introduced Robison. Rogers had been elected president of the Southern Baptist Convention in 1979. He still held the office at this meeting.
