Allergy Control

I visited a friend of mine this week. He is a lifelong sufferer from allergies. He has a major problem: he is also an outdoorsman. He lives in the sticks. His home's deck is intersected by the Ozark National Forest.

He has found a solution to his problem: a neti pot. He showed it to me. It looks simple enough.

The device holds a solution of non-iodized salt (one teaspoon) and warm water.

After he goes into his yard each day, he inhales through his nose the salt water solution. He says this has reduced his allergies by 80%. "I used to take antihistamine after I mowed my yard. Now I don't. I just inhale a potful of salt water."

The pot costs about $20.

My grandmother told me about this remedy when I was quite young. She used a salt water solution held in her cupped hand and inhaled it. I tried this with varying degrees of success over the years.
