Median CPI, Not CPI

Gary North - April 17, 2021

There is talk on the Web about rising price inflation. Ignore it for now.

The most reliable indicator of price inflation is the Median CPI, published by the Federal Reserve Bank of Cleveland. The Median CPI is less volatile than the CPI.

In recent months, the rate of increase of the Median CPI has been slowing, which is the opposite of the CPI.

What matters is the trend.

The trend is a reduced rate of increase -- not deflation: disinflation.
