The models: Linda Ronstadt and Bob Warford. I knew them in the mid-1960s: Bob, well; Linda, briefly. I have written about this here:
Years later, the two teamed up. Bob was her back-up guitarist. He was one of the original developers of country rock, along with Clarence White, who died in 1973. Bob played banjo in White's Kentucky Colonels, a legendary bluegrass band. He began playing electric guitar at about the same time that White did. He toured with the Everly Brothers and Ronstadt, 1970-75. He is now one of the most distinguished trial lawyers in the world. I am sure there is no ex-studio guitarist in the world who has a web page like this:
This video is from 1974, with my favorite Ronstadt song, recorded first on her 1969 album, Hand Sewn, Home Grown. Warford's guitar break here is simply amazing. He is the guy playing the pale guitar: the legendary second StringBender, which gave him a unique sound. He put his way through grad school doing this.
So, crank up those speakers.
