Tax Credits Helped Build the Mob Museum

Gary North - September 21, 2021

The city of Las Vegas is spending $42 million to build a museum devoted to organized crime. No, not Congress. The Mob.

The city got federal tax credits of $10.6 million.

You and I will make up the difference.

A nonprofit organization is supervising all this.

Let’s see. A non-profit organization is promoting the Mob, which was [is] surely not a non-profit organization.

The Museum has replaced the former occupant of the building: the U.S. government. Think of this as the Big Mob being replaced by the little Mob. “The museum’s construction funding is coming through a variety of sources: local, state and federal grants, matching grants and the city’s redevelopment agency.”

Some of the museum’s exhibits show how the federal government battled the Mob.

The museum is 41,000 square feet. An acre is about 44,000 square feet. Of this, over 16,000 square feet are devoted to retail shops. There is a special events area.

The museum opened on February 14. That seems fitting. The project gunned down taxpayers.
