Nancy Pelosi, the House Minority Leader, said yesterday that the Congress is going to pass a gun control bill, no matter what the NRA says. She did not say when.
“We are not taking no for an answer,” she explained.
Gun control is “inevitable,” she said.
“It’s a matter of time,” she insisted.
But what of Democrats in the Senate who voted against Senator Reid’s bill, which would have mandated background checks at gun shows? She said they put their careers ahead of public safety.
That would seem to indicate that the voters in those Senators’ states do not think that tighter gun control laws are going to increase public safety. On the contrary, they are concerned about safety from a grasping federal government.
We need gun control “for the children,” she insisted.
That means we need a more powerful federal government for the children.
We need more federal law-enforcement officers for the children.
We need higher taxes for the children.
Pelosi is supporting a bill like the one that just failed in the Senate.
She said the bill’s defeat in the Senate will energize gun control activists.

She declares inevitable victory. Then she comes up short. This does not faze her.
Gun control has not come. It did not come when the Democrats controlled the White House and both houses of Congress (2009-2011). It has not come in this term.
