My book, An Introduction to Christian Economics (1973), was a collection of essays, many from The Freeman. It has been out of print for 30 years.

The book was my attempt to begin the study of the relationship between the Bible and economic theory. But I decided in 1973 that I needed to do a full-scale, verse-by-verse exegetical commentary on the economic passages in the Bible before I began to write the equivalent of Adam Smith's Wealth of Nations. So, in May, 1973, the first chapter of my Economic Commentary on the Bible was published in Chalcedon Report. I am still working on this project.

The Bible teaches free market economics. This annoys Christian socialists and welfare statists, who invoke a few misinterpreted passages in the Bible to defend their position. But they never write detailed analyses of the economics of the Bible. They deny that such analysis is required. They deny that the Bible can serve as a blueprint for economics. They invoke the "spirit" of the Bible. They are selective in which passages support their interpretation of this pro-socialist spirit.

There are reasons why this book and my commentaries are never mentioned by Christian socialists. First, they are not economists. Second, they do not read critical literature or interact with it. Third, they cannot answer me. So, they pretend I'm not here.

I'm here.
