Iran's social order is doomed. I am not the first to say this, but let me add to the chorus.

First, Iran is running out of oil. Within 20 years, it will probably cease to export energy. It will need all it can afford domestically. Second, it is a welfare state with high unemployment. Third, its total fertility rate has fallen below the replacement rate of 2.1 children per woman. On what this means for Iran's economy, click here.

Iranian leaders want to make Iran into a regional military powerhouse. They do not have much time.

Meanwhile, here is what Iranian authorities think is important: enforcing a dress code on women. This is a guaranteed lost cause. Young women will eventually rebel. Iran's leaders are swimming upstream in a country of sand. For your viewing edification, click the PLAY button twice. After viewing it, see if it supports my conclusion, which follows.

The United States government should get its troops out of the Middle East. The region is not merely sand; it is quicksand. Trying to turn the Middle East into a democratic arsenal of freedom is just plain nuts. It is not worth the life of one farmer's son from Iowa. Or daughter.
