Inflation Calculator, Bureau of Labor Statistics: Save It or Lose It

Gary North

August 2, 2008

The Bureau of Labor Statistics has for years posted its Inflation Calculator on its home page: www.bls.gov. This week, it was moved. It is now very difficult to find. If you did not previously know that it exists, you could not find it. The newly designed BLS site has simply buried it. It is here:

http://www.bls.gov/data/inflation_calculator.htm

Save it in Favorites or Bookmarks.

It is always posted on my site, in the free department, Price Index (U.S.A.)

With this tool, you can find out how much money it would take in any year after 1914 to buy $1,000 worth of goods in 1914. The calculator uses the official consumer price index is its guide.

I refer to this index again and again. Nothing better demonstrates the results of the Federal Reserve System's debasement of the dollar.
