Call Your Lawyer Before Talking With a Policeman -- Always.
August 2, 2008
Until I saw these two videos, I had no idea just how stupid it is to say anything official to a policeman until you have a lawyer present. Zip your lips.
The videos apply when you are approached to answer questions, not when you call for help.
I knew that anything I say can be held against me. I did not know that anything I say that is favorable to me will be automatically objected to as hearsay by the other attorney and automatically upheld by the judge.
This means that talking to a policeman, no matter what, is a lose-lose deal for the talker.
I suggest that you spend 27 minutes watching the presentation of the fastest-talking lawyer I have ever seen.
The 21-minute presentation by the policeman is informative on how the police get 80% of people to confess to something.
