Manage Your IRA
August 9, 2008
If the investment options for your IRA are limited, you should consider setting up a self-directed IRA. This is legal. It's relatively easy.
To learn more about this option, go here:
Rob Clayton is a CPA.
He does not offer investment advice. He will help you take control over your IRA.
Warning: with respect to the long-term return on American stocks, you have heard that they increase by 7% per annum. No, scratch that: 10% per annum. "Buy and hold. It's a no-brainer."
It surely is. As an alternative, I recommend brains.
The Standard & Poor's 500 index peaked in March 2000 at 1,527. Today, it is around 1,300. Meanwhile, consumer prices have risen by 21%. Buy and hold stocks? Only if you've got no brains.
In February 2000 and again in March, I warned my subscribers that the stock market was close to a peak and to get out. I hope they did.
In this century, the U.S. stock market has been a losing proposition. Anyone who says otherwise is blowing smoke in your ear, to match the sweet nothings he is whispering in your other ear. He is probably working on commission.
