One way to save money on your phone service, including your Internet service, is to watch for ads on special rates. I received this tip from a reader.

I have AT&T internet service. They recently advertised $14.95 per month DSL guaranteed for 2 yrs on TV.

I called 888-877-3041 to have mine reduced from $19.95 to $14.95 - no problem. This is the second time I have done this. The 1st was $24.95 to $19.95. You have to call or they will not change it.

You can call the toll-free number now. Don't wait to see an ad on TV.

You can just say "I want the special rate you advertised on TV." They'll know.

Thanks for the tip. It took about 20 minutes, because the number given is for SE USA and they kept switching me to other AT&T numbers, but when I finally got the right person, she signed me up for the reduced rate right away.

I had a story ready about how I'd seen the ad on a friend's TV (I don't own one) and didn't know what channel it was on (in case she asked), but she didn't, and I am looking forward to going back to what used to be their regular rate.
