Today, I am in Boston attending a conference on -- what else? -- how to make money with a subscription Web site.
It cost me $700 to attend the conference.
It would have cost me $300 to fly to Boston via Atlanta, only I got stuck in Atlanta on Tuesday, so I had to pay $279 extra to cancel my flight to Atlanta. That's right. It cost me an extra $279 NOT to fly from Memphis to Atlanta. Go figure.
It will cost $400 to rent a car.
Then it will cost for the motel and food. Add another $400. Normally, I would find a cheap motel, but not for a conference. Stay at the motel where the conference is held. You are there to make personal contacts. Don't leave.
This is an expensive trip. Why do it? Because I am after one good idea.
Just one good idea will be worth multiples of my expenses. I may hit pay dirt. Maybe I will pick up two good ideas.
I may make a couple of contacts that will make me money down the road. I will be rubbing shoulders with people with subscription sites. How else could I locate them?
The average person thinks "$2,000 for a weekend. I can't afford it." This is why he remains average.
I would prefer to pay $2,500 for that one good idea, and then not attend. The lost time cost is the biggest cost. But we can't buy good ideas this way.
