I Shall Vote for a Democrat Congressman
October 16, 2008
I shall vote for Travis Childers. Mr. Childers is the most junior Congressman, having been elected this year in a special election to fill an empty seat.
I wrote to him to vote against the bailout. I received a reply telling me that he had voted against the first bill. Then, he added, regarding the second, "the Senate turned a bad $700 billion plan into a bad $900 billion plan in order to ensure its passage." Anyone who writes a sentence like that will get my vote.
I suggest you do the same. If an incumbent voted against it both times, he deserves your vote if anyone does. If we vote against people who vote right in tight votes against the combined pressure of the Administration and the Congressional leadership, we transfer power to those who capitulated.
